We see women, moms in particular, put themselves on the back burner time and time again.
While there is a lot of societal change that needs to happen (don't worry, we are working on it!), there is also a lot of individual change that needs to happen.
So, we are asking the hard questions today.
There are only so many hours in a year, what do you ACTUALLY want to be doing with your time?
The answer can't be, "I want to make 100 million dollars and also be home all the time with my kids” I mean, do you want your week to look like that of a male CEO making 1 trillion dollars? Or do you want to leave at 5pm and catch your kid's soccer game? Look, neither of these things is wrong. You need to define what you want your hours to look like and not chase titles that feel 'successful' when they don't fit the life you want to LIVE
When was the last time you redefined success for yourself?
You aren't 24 anymore. We imagine you've updated your wardrobe since then, so you should probably update your career goals. You change, and that's ok. Your needs change, and that's ok. Maybe you don't want to be C-Suite anymore, and that's ok. This isn't a failure. It is SUCCESS when you redefine what is important to you and then go after that.
What do you NEED and what do you WANT?
Getting what you need IS success. How much money do you need? Do you need benefits? Get very practical. Need vs. want is a different discussion.
It is a heavy weight to bear to be all of the things society wants you to be, but when was the last time you asked what you wanted? Once you have your needs met, what do you WANT?
Is this what you want to show your kids what work looks like?
One day, on the way home from work, I had a breakdown on the bus. I realized that my working life was not something I wanted for my kids. I would shit-talk my boss and complain all of the time. They were listening and I couldn't bear the idea that this is what they think work is. I wanted to show my kids what work could be.
Do you just want to do what your parents did and call it a day?
Look at our examples of work. Our parents worked because work it is what you did. Post COVID we've had a reckoning. Employees are awakening and realizing that they deserve better. But it is hard to make the switch in our brains because we have no examples. We ARE the examples.
How long have you been thinking about shifting the way your life works?
Is the idea of switching things up new to you? Or have you been thinking that things have GOT TO CHANGE for a while now?
You can't wallow in it. You have to do something about it!
Do you plan on working until you die? WHY?
These things can't wait. That's what COVID taught us.
Are the people in your life holding you accountable?
It can be great to have people in our lives who just listen and let us vent, but do you have someone in your life who holds you accountable? That says, "Hey. What are you going to do about it?"
That's what the Collective is. A group that holds you accountable to redefining success and then going after it.
We know this email may feel like some tough love, so we want you to know, most of all, that if you are screaming into the void, "WHY CAN'T I MAKE THIS WORK?? WHY IS EVERYONE ELSE SUCCESSFUL?", you aren't alone.
We see this every single day. Women who feel like they aren't doing enough, aren't achieving enough, aren't working hard enough, aren't as successful as the women around them.
Know that you ARE doing enough. You ARE good enough.
The Collective is our group program full of incredible humans, just like you. They are a supportive community of moms who want to grow their careers and change the working world. This is truly one of the most beautiful spaces on the internet. Join the waitlist to be the first to know the next time doors open!
