Free Legal Consults? Hudson Sinclair x Moms at Work team up to protect working mothers

Hudson Sinclair LLP offers free legal consults for expecting and new mothers who may have been wrongfully terminated due to discrimination for becoming a mother.

Unfortunately, being let go when you’re pregnant or returning from parental leave is not uncommon, but it is against the law….sometimes. Moms at Work completed a survey of women’s experiences during maternity leave and found that 33% of women reported being discriminated against due to becoming or being a mother in the workplace. In response the group has now partnered with a parent run law firm - Hudson Sinclair LLP to provide access to free legal consults and free resources including a Return to Work guide.

“Moms at Work represents over 30K women in Canada and everyday see women being laid off on maternity leave or while pregnant. Time and again we are told that they are afraid or unsure if they should check in with a lawyer. Companies count on these vulnerable employees to not fight back. We are here to make sure that we give them the option and support they need” says Moms at Work Founder - Allison Venditti

”As a new mother this project felt important and personal. If you just lost your job and you’re a new or expecting mom, you could be leaving money on the table if you don’t understand your rights. I want to make sure that no one is in a position that they can’t get the support they need to make an informed decision” Deborah Hudson - Partner - Hudson Sinclair LLP

The project is a pilot project between Moms at Work and Hudson Sinclair that will run until the end of 2024 and is open to mothers who have been terminated or laid off while pregnant, on maternity leave or within 6 months of returning from maternity leave.

“Moms at Work are putting employers on notice. You are no longer just firing one person who might not have the resources but a whole network of women who are learning, connecting and supporting them.” Allison Venditti
